The big news from Giants camp today was that [HB] David Wilson suffered a burner at the end of practice, possibly injuring his neck that underwent off-season surgery. Wilson caught a swing pass from Curtis Painter and ran into the back of Eric Herman with his head down. Coughlin sounded worried (and rightfully so) after practice, and Wilson has since been sent to the Hospital for Special Surgery for the “full battery” of tests. The Giants have been prepared to move forward without #22 ever since the initial injury, but it goes without saying that the team and fans alike are crossing their fingers for the former first round pick. There is still plenty of time before the season opener, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the tests reveal.
In other injury news, both [WR]s Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle sat out of practice today with hamstring issues. Beckham has now missed a week of practice, but seemed confident he will be able to participate in multiple preseason games when he addressed the media today. This was Randle’s first day sitting out, and there will be a valuable increase in reps for Jerrel Jernigan as long as those other two are sidelined.
One non-injury note: [TE] Larry Donnell is steadily solidifying himself a roster spot, and making a good case for the starting job. He has made a couple highlight-reel catches in this week of practice, and he has more experience (albeit slightly) playing with Eli Manning than the lot. I’ve been a fan of Donnell since we saw him get on the field at the end of last season, and I’ve had him penciled in atop the depth chart since free agency ended.
