After serving as the Senior Pro Personnel Analyst for NYG, Dave Gettleman has been named the new GM for the Carolina Panthers. Our organization sung his praises as he departed; President John Mara had “mixed emotions about this”, and called Gettleman “instrumental to the success we have had” … our own GM Jerry Reese said “Dave is extremely qualified to be the general manager of the Panthers and will do a terrific job” … Coach Tom Coughlin added “Dave knows what a football player is. He knows how to evaluate talent”. Obviously we don’t expect anything ill to be spoken about our own, but it’s clear that Gettleman’s input was valued and respected.
The other name from the NYG camp that has been tossed around is Marc Ross, our Director of College Scouting. He was a candidate alongside Gettleman to be GM in Carolina, and there’s plenty of interest in Ross elsewhere around the league. It is surprising to many that of our two managerial candidates, Gettleman was the first to be plucked away, so the Giants may soon suffer another loss in the office.
